The Okhmatdyt Children's Hospital in Kyiv serves as a temporary living space, with children and their mothers seeking refuge in the hospital's basement to escape the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. In this basement, originally intended as a bomb shelter, families contend with limited resources, makeshift bedding, and a lack of basic amenities like adult beds, chairs, or tables. Despite the challenging conditions and constant threat of bombings, initiatives, like Give A Light, provide a crucial source of comfort, alleviating the fear of the dark and offering a semblance of normalcy for small children living in this uncertain environment.

Creating a Safe Haven in Darkness

Solight's solar lanterns help build a safe and comforting environment for these children and their families. The nighttime environment in the hospital's basement can be particularly unsettling for young patients. The gentle glow emitted by these lanterns not only dispels the darkness but also provides a sense of security. In a space where each glimmer of light holds significance, these lanterns contribute to a serene ambiance, easing the anxieties of both children and parents.

Solar Empowerment

Solight's solar lanterns serve as educational instruments, introducing young Ukrainian children to the marvels of solar energy. The lanterns transcend their role as mere light sources and become symbols of resilience and hope. Children are empowered with the knowledge of solar energy and power, offering a glimpse of a brighter and more sustainable future.

Color Therapy

The therapeutic benefits of colors are well-documented, and Solight's lanterns infuse a splash of color into the otherwise austere environment of the hospital's basement. The vibrant hues of the lanterns contribute to a positive atmosphere, fostering hope and optimism amidst the darkness. Different colors evoke specific emotions: green for renewal and growth, blue for calmness amidst chaos, yellow for optimism and hope, and purple for transformation and resilience.

Supporting the Hospital's Resilient Spirit

Solight's solar lanterns complement the efforts of hospital staff, who engage in activities such as singing songs and playing games to uplift the spirits of patients during air raids. The lanterns become integral in creating a space where moments of joy and distraction are attainable. With their color-changing mode and convenient handles for easy portability, these lanterns provide both practicality and possibility, opening up avenues for imagination for children and families seeking refuge.
