Ukraine Relief

Sending Light and Love to Ukrainian refugee families fleeing their country into Poland and Moldova as Russians invade. More than 1.2 million civilians have fled Ukraine, according to the UN. Our partnering Nonprofit organizations NuDay is sending our solar lights to the women, children and elderly in Ukraine who have fled to shelters and bunkers. NuDay is working in Ukraine and Poland to quickly reach women and children with dignified aid, sending containers with much-needed humanitarian and medical supplies. They are also working to support evacuations and housing for refugees.

There is a dire need for solar lights and chargers. For every 5 Helix donations we will donate a QWNN light with phone charger. The European Union (EU) estimates that up to four million people may try to leave the country because of the Russian invasion. Our hearts are broken and words fail. Nationalism has once again led to war in Europe. And we are on the brink of yet another full-blown humanitarian crisis, as Ukrainian refugees flee their country seeking safety.

We are also working with Utah Refugee Connection, Lifting Hands International NGO partners in Moldova who are on the front lines helping Ukrainians as they cross the border. Frequently, these refugee families—mostly women and children—have walked long distances, waited in lines stretching for miles, and have little with them other than the clothes on their back and whatever they can carry. We are already sending 100 QWNN solar lamps with phone chargers to the border of Moldova with our friends at the Utah Refugee Connection and Lifting Hands international. 

Children in Haiti

We are giving light again to our partners on the ground in Haiti for the Holidays. We met many children in Haiti, this past August 2021 our founder Alice Chun personally delivered lights to Haiti earthquake victims in the Nippes region. The children were sleeping on the ground and the school was a pile of rubble. This holiday we want to send each child a light for keeping them safe and able to do homework at night. Not only will we deliver life-saving lights, but Alice will also teach the children about solar technology. Hurricane IDA, New Orleans

Hurricane Ida made landfall in Port Fourchon, La., just before noon on Sunday with winds at 150mph. The hurricane was strong enough to wipe the electrical power in all of New Orleans and although the power service is slowly being the restored the Weather Channel reported they could remain without power for a month and over 1 Million people do not have electricity.

"Entergy said about 895,000 customers, which are homes and businesses that could include multiple people, lost power because of Ida. Cleco, another large utility, reported 90,000 customers lost power." The Weather Channel

That's why we we are partnering with Non-profit organizations and churches currently in the ground at New Orleans to provide lights.

Navajo Strong

Navajo Strong is a nonprofit dedicated to getting essential supplies to communities on the Navajo reservation. The Navajo reservation is the largest in the U.S. and accounts for about 75% of the households without electricity in this country. Aside from the obvious correlation between having electricity and quality of life, there are also tremendous benefits in terms of safety. The Eastern Agency in particular is not only the poorest region on the reservation but in the nation. Access to basic human resources such as water, food, and education is difficult as these communities are so far removed from basic infrastructure.

In partnership with Solight Design, Navajo Strong will be distributing lights in the Eastern Agency. Solight’s contribution to the reservation and partnership with Navajo Strong for effective distribution has the potential to truly change lives for years to come. Children will be able to do their homework, families can safely cook at night, and individuals will be able to travel on foot from one place to another, even at night.

Give Light To Timathea

Timathea Shays Workman, an award winning writer and photographer, has had a varied career working as an assistant tour manager and album cover designer for rock bands, a ghostwriter for A-List actors, a special effects researcher for Lucasfilm, a high school and middle school English teacher, an environmental advocate, and an international trip leader and speaker. But what has touched her most deeply has been her work giving Solight lamps to people around the world who have no access to electricity.“There is nothing more deeply rewarding than knowing you are making a significant impact in someone’s life through the simple yet powerful gift of light. To alleviate pitch darkness means you are giving women a means to protect themselves from predators, children comfort at night, families a healthy and free alternative to dangerous smoke or kerosene chemicals, and environmental care givers another tool in their mission to protect wildlife. There is really nothing that has touched me so profoundly as this work, and I want to do even more of it,” Workman says.
