Bring Light to Ukraine
Through our partnership with Common Man for Ukraine, Solight lanterns are bringing light and hope to families enduring war. Founder Alice Chun was part of the nonprofit’s 13th aid convoy this August, helping deliver hundreds of solar lanterns alongside 46,000 pounds of food for more than 37,000 Ukrainians in safe houses and frontline villages. These small but powerful lights offer safety, dignity, and comfort in the darkest of times.
Hurricane Relief in Acapulco
The aftermath of Hurricane Otis in Acapulco, Mexico, has resulted in a significant human toll, with nearly 100 people dead or missing. The Category 5 storm struck Acapulco with powerful winds, causing extensive damage, including flooding, roof destruction, submerged vehicles, and severed communications and transportation links. Solight will donate "Give a Light" lanterns to families impacted by the Hurricane.
Maui Disaster Response
The confirmed death toll from the fires has risen to 96 and is expected to increase further. This makes the Maui wildfire the deadliest in modern U.S. history, surpassing the 2018 Camp Fire in California, which claimed 85 lives (NBC News). Wildfires that ravaged the Hawaiian island of Maui have killed scores of people and forced thousands to evacuate. Little is left in the historic town of Lahaina, which was once Hawaii's capital. The exact cause of the blaze is still unknown, but a mix of land and atmospheric conditions created "fire weather." At Solight, our hearts go out to the communities on Maui that have been affected by the devastating fires.
Earthquake in Turkey and Syria
We are heartbroken with the aftermath of the earthquake in Turkey and Syria. Turkey is reeling as the death toll continues to climb after Monday's magnitude 7.8 earthquake, with more than 11,000 people already reported dead and 50,000 injured across the two countries. According to the World Health Organization, 23 million people are displaced by the disaster. The power grid is decimated and we will be donating our solar lights to the homeless families living in the dark. We will be on the ground with our Non-profit partners in Adana and as always will be sharing video and photos of the delivery.
Hurricane Ian Florida Relief
Over 1 million without power. According to the New York Times, “Hurricane Ian is going to be a storm that we talk about for decades,” Deanne Criswell, the administrator of the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Ian was so powerful that its winds were just a few miles per hour shy of making it a Category 5 storm as it made landfall in Florida on Wednesday. And it didn't take long for it to unleash its wrath on Florida's power grids.
We are sending Solights to Hurricane Ian victims in partnership with Florida Rising a non-profit organization working for CLIMATE JUSTICE and housing a just transition that puts frontline communities at the center of energy policy, disaster response, food policy, and all climate change initiatives.Florida Rising also fights for safe affordable homes, rent control, and housing development for the. underserved.
Fiona Relief Puerto Rico!
On September 18th, 2022 a category 4 Hurricane Fiona hit Puerto Rico in the southern region. The island’s power grid was crippled again; 1.5 million had lost electricity and are left in the dark. We will be delivering Solights to the victims of Fiona with love and light. Our on the ground friends and partners are already there helping and need more Solarpuffs. We are working with the Non-Profit Stronger Than Maria to deliver lights to those that need them most. We were there in 2017 when Maria hit and when the earthquakes hit in 2019. Now we will be there again. These pictures are from Puerto Rico 2017 when we first delivered lights in San Juan. Founder Alice Min Soo Chun is personally going to deliver lights there on October 2nd 2022 and will be meeting up with Operation Blessing.

Children in Haiti
We are giving light again to our partners on the ground in Haiti for the Holidays. We met many children in Haiti, this past August 2021 our founder Alice Chun personally delivered lights to Haiti earthquake victims in the Nippes region. The children were sleeping on the ground and the school was a pile of rubble. This holiday we want to send each child a light for keeping them safe and able to do homework at night. Not only will we deliver life-saving lights, but Alice will also teach the children about solar technology. After the first earthquake 10 years ago, we have been helping in Haiti to provide light to the most underserved regions of the world. Read more about the beginning of Solight in Haiti Here.
Hurricane IDA, New Orleans
Hurricane Ida made landfall in Port Fourchon, La., just before noon on Sunday with winds at 150mph. The hurricane was strong enough to wipe the electrical power in all of New Orleans and although the power service is slowly being the restored the Weather Channel reported they could remain without power for a month and over 1 Million people do not have electricity.
"Entergy said about 895,000 customers, which are homes and businesses that could include multiple people, lost power because of Ida. Cleco, another large utility, reported 90,000 customers lost power." The Weather Channel
That's why we we are partnering with Non-profit organizations and churches currently in the ground at New Orleans to provide lights.
Solar lanterns are ideal for hurricane preparedness and the aftermath as well. Our people need light, donate one now and help!

Navajo Strong
Navajo Strong is a nonprofit dedicated to getting essential supplies to communities on the Navajo reservation. The Navajo reservation is the largest in the U.S. and accounts for about 75% of the households without electricity in this country. Aside from the obvious correlation between having electricity and quality of life, there are also tremendous benefits in terms of safety. The Eastern Agency in particular is not only the poorest region on the reservation but in the nation. Access to basic human resources such as water, food, and education is difficult as these communities are so far removed from basic infrastructure.
In partnership with Solight Design, Navajo Strong will be distributing lights in the Eastern Agency. Solight’s contribution to the reservation and partnership with Navajo Strong for effective distribution has the potential to truly change lives for years to come. Children will be able to do their homework, families can safely cook at night, and individuals will be able to travel on foot from one place to another, even at night.
Give Light To Timathea
Timathea Shays Workman, an award winning writer and photographer, has had a varied career working as an assistant tour manager and album cover designer for rock bands, a ghostwriter for A-List actors, a special effects researcher for Lucasfilm, a high school and middle school English teacher, an environmental advocate, and an international trip leader and speaker. But what has touched her most deeply has been her work giving Solight lamps to people around the world who have no access to electricity.“There is nothing more deeply rewarding than knowing you are making a significant impact in someone’s life through the simple yet powerful gift of light. To alleviate pitch darkness means you are giving women a means to protect themselves from predators, children comfort at night, families a healthy and free alternative to dangerous smoke or kerosene chemicals, and environmental care givers another tool in their mission to protect wildlife. There is really nothing that has touched me so profoundly as this work, and I want to do even more of it,” Workman says.
You can support this worthwhile movement to bring light to the world :
Donate lamps for Timathea to give to those in need on her journeys (follow her on social media to see the impact you’ve had.)
Donate to other Solight partners who are making a difference with light through their organizations.
Purchase Solight products to hand out on your travels (it will be the most rewarding part of your trip.)
